More Birthday Highlights!

video

We had a fun, little celebration for you at our house this weekend with some of your friends. We had a great time playing and "eating" cake. We had to post high-lights of the obligatory first birthday cake...for those of you who are interested in a healthy, delicious cake...here's a great recipe...it really is good, despite what you see on the video above...

2.5 cups shredded carrots

2.5 cups apple juice concentrate

1.5 cups raisins

2 cups whole wheat flour

1/2 cup wheat germ

2 TB baking powder

1 TB ground cinammon

1/4 cup vegetable oil

2 whole eggs

4 egg whites

1 TB vanilla extract

3/4 unsweetened applesauce

1. Combine carrots plus 2 TB of juice concentrate in a saucepan. Birng to a boil and then simmer until tender, 15-20 minutes. Puree in a blender until smooth. Add raisins and process until finely chopped.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

3. Combine flour, wheat germ, baking powder and cinammon in a large mixing bowl. Add 1 1/4 C juice concentrate, the oil, eggs, egg whites, and vanilla. Beat until well mixed. Fold in the carrot/raisin puree. Pour into greased cake pans.

4. Bake 35-40 minutes

First Christmas

NO. SLEEP. TIL. PORTLAND. (If you aren't already, you should be singing this to the tune of Beasty Boy's "No Sleep til Brooklyn"). This was coincidentally the theme of our first family Christmas in Sunriver.

Sunriver itself was magical- Brunch with Santa (and a few of his pals including Rudolph)..

...snowfall!! and beatiful views of Mt. Bachelor...

...Christmas Dinner in the Great Hall...

...shopping in Bend, long walks in the snow, presents!, presents! and presents!

Apparently, travel with an almost-one-year old, is well, not a vacation. We've vowed not to travel again until you can actually purchase your own ticket. :)

Upon our return from Sunriver, we were greated with a surprise snowstorm in Portland! I've decided that the metereologists in Portland are, at best, unqualified...they NEVER predict when snow will actually fall. We had a ton of fun playing in the snow, AGAIN!

We are looking forward to Christmas, Part 3 this week when your 2nd set of grandparents visit. Then, we're gearing up for someone's first birthday the week after!!!

Catching Up!

Oh, it's been too long! We have so much fun stuff to share...I think from Month 10 to Month 11 we've witnessed the most growth, change and development! You went from kind of crawling to speed crawling to pulling up on EVERYTHING in sight. My new favorite thing that you do is "transfering", meaning you'll pull up on a box, then "transfer" to the ottoman, then "transfer" to the chair...making your way around an entire room holding onto various pieces of furniture. See below pic of you practicing your fun new skill at Powell's City of Books...

Also...and finally, you have 2 little teeth! (It's the best picture I could get below)

We've also started to finally enjoy finger foods...pictured here with a teething biscuit (note...it took 4 days to clean you up from this mess).

I also feel like you are on the brink of your first words...you frequently say "Mamamamamama...mom", which I'm clearly convinced is "Mama". You also will say "Dadadadadadada" which we really do think is almost "Dada". We've even noticed a "Hiiiiiii" when waving at people on the street (which is another fun, new trick).
You've just been so wonderfully, adorably fun and cute lately- laughing all the time, "talking" all the time, crawling and so busy. We enjoyed a very nice visit from Gram & Gramps in early December...here you are trying to open the Christmas presents they brought you early...

We also had a wonderful visit from Aunt Tiny. You had so much fun with Aunt Tiny we felt like we were being replaced! :) Aunt Tiny also brought you some wonderful Christmas presents, including this very cute bib.

In other going-ons, we had Brunch with Santa this past weekend...officially your first time to meet Santa. Unfortunately, this did not go that well. Granted, Santa was clearly just a 30-something Whole Foods employee...

"I'm not so sure about you..."
"Mom...why are you doing this?"

"Please get me away from this scary man..."

So Thankful

We had a wonderful, long Thanksgiving weekend together. We really missed our families and wished we could have all been together, but I'm very thankful that our little family was able to spend such quality time together.

We had such a fun-filled weekend...

...we started Thanksgiving day off on a bit of an early note, so your Daddy decided to just bring you in bed with him and turn on Sports Center (bad Daddy, but really cute picture...)

After a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with some Portland friends, we then watched a stressful, yet glorious Longhorn victory over the Aggies...Go Horns Go! With a break in the rain on Friday, we took advantage of the lovely weather and headed to the zoo!

Daddy and Caroline watching the baby elephant

Saturday, we hit the toy store to do some Christmas shopping. I figure you don't really know dates or what Christmas is, so I decided to give you one of your Christmas presents early...the mini-piano is a huge hit! I think we may have a budding musician on our hands...

One of our most favorite Thanksgiving traditions since moving to Oregon is cutting down our own Christmas tree. We headed to the hills and found the perfect tree!

Saturday night your Mom & Dad headed out to dinner and drinks with some good friends while you were in the caring hands of your new baby-sitter we've had over a few times.

Over the course of the weekend, you worked on your crawling AND moved onto pulling up on everything, including your crib railing when you should be napping...

Moving Forward

video

For the longest time, you've been crawling...crawling backwards, sideways, in a circle, but never quite forward. You managed to get where you needed to go, through a combination of rolling, flipping and backwards crawling. Well, on Sunday, you finally crawled forward. It's terribly cute and you've been on-the-go since, practicing your new skills pretty much constantly.

In other important updates, you are once again sleeping like a baby! Woohoo!!! After only two weeks of "sleep coaching", it's a whole new world at our house. Mommy and Daddy (and most importantly little Caroline) are all well rested. Mommy and Daddy have even gotten to celebrate by going on some dates lately!

Happy 10 Months!

Today we celebrated turning 10 months old...we headed out to Book Babies at the library, which you love and then had some lunch with our friends Isla & Carl.

It's hard to believe that you are already 10 months old...

It doesn't seem that long ago that you were 10 weeks old...

And I still remember when you were 10 days old...
